Getting to Know Your Flaws

Successful flaw announcing depends to a great degree on how sensitive the announcer is to the unique qualities of the perceived flaws. Therefore it is a good idea to spend some time observing and analyzing the flaws to be announced by answering these simple questions:

What kinds of flaws are present?

stains
scratches
blurs
smears
splatters
scuffs
dents
gouges
mistakes
etc.

Of the different kinds of flaws identified how are they alike or different? What properties do they share?

color
value
intensity
shape
location
size
direction
edge quality (smooth-edged vs. ragged-edged, etc.)
cause or method of origin

Do any of the perceived flaws suggest or encourage the seeing of an alternative image or image fragment?

When the above questions have been answered and the observations have been made, select one or more of the basic Flaw Announcing Methods and start having fun.
